Nice pictures but too much style over substance

Nice enough book - lots of beautiful photos and lyrical descriptions BUT it's relatively difficult to follow the format and layout of the book, it's rather lacking in useful detail and there's rather too much style over substance to be of much use actually on the ground

Why my next holiday will be in Portugal

I've lived in Spain for over thirty years and know the country fairly well, even those parts that are well off the beaten track. But, like most Spaniards, for me Portugal is that white space on the map that occupies the western chunk of the Iberian Peninsular. With Wild Guide Portugal I no longer have an excuse for my ignorance. Just flicking through the book and looking at the photos was a complete revelation. I was blissfully unaware of the sheer beauty and variety of Portugal: the castles and mountains of the North; the hundreds of miles of unspoilt coastline; the pristine rivers and lakes; the arid plains of the South; the windswept Atlantic islands. I like the organisation of each chapter, with a mixture of places to see, wild swims, walks and hikes as well as places to stay and restauraunts and bars to visit. This guide is not for you if you like 'doing' the sights, staying in upmarket hotels and driving frantically from place to place. It's for 'slow travellers' who want to get inside the landscape, shed their clothes and jump into that river, walk up that hill to see the Romanesque chapel, hang out with the locals, have another glass of cool vinho verde. For my next holiday, I'm going West.
