Good, but not in the same class as the first two Revelation novels.

Firstly, I must say that the above summary is entirely relative; the first two books are so good that this one seems a little weak both in plot and execution. For the first time with a Reynolds, I found myself skip-reading sections of the occasional paragraph as the plot was not as complex or taut as I’d come to expect and while the character development was welcome, the narrative flow suffered.I also found the ending most unsatisfactory, what should have been a thrilling culmination of the struggle against the Inhibitors was reduced to a very brief epilogue of, I assume, Aura’s reminiscences. In fact, I read the last chapter, the prologue and the epilogue a couple more times to see if I could glean any more from the paltry whimper of a finale. How could a race as important as the Nestbuilders be relegated to a few meagre references? If there had to be an epilogue, perhaps it should have been set millennia after the events of the book describing the impact of humanities apparent escape from the Inhibitor threat – were the Inhibitors not designed to suppress emergent space faring civilisations thus averting some cataclysmic event in the far future? [Small spoiler warning] - I did, however, like the idea that the stalemate between humanity and the Inhibitors upset the galactic balance thus allowing another malevolent force to rise to power; very Zen.Despite my criticisms, I still really enjoyed this book; by any other author it would have been a masterpiece, but Reynolds set the bar so high in his other books that I’ve read to date that I was just a little disappointed.

The book is great, but it has few inconsistencies.

I am not a talented writer myself, so I may not be able to describe what I found really good about this book. But I enjoyed this book very much. There is one thing, though, that I found disappointing : it is the end. I have the feeling that the end is botched.How did the pig Scorpio penetrated the moving upper levels of the cathedral on Hela ? The author tells us that he took a cable used by the chief engineer to escape, before the cathedral fell into the rift. That’s all right… but the cathedral’s basement was all locked. And even the chief engineer could not leave the basement, other than by cutting through the cathedral’s floor. Clearly, the chief engineer could not reach the upper levels in time, before the fall of the cathedral (the tools need to cut through the locked doors were too heavy and very difficult to manipulate). Therefore, how come Scorpio, injured, could have made it ?Other than for few details like this one, the book is great.

Belle suite aux 2 premiers tomes malgré une fin un peu rapide

Excellent, hormis les 50 dernières pages où l'histoire est, à mon sens, bâclée. Cependant je le relirait quand même sans hésiter car j'ai beaucoup aimé le reste du bouquin.
